The Sanitary Landfill of Kos Island is located in the “Matiades” area, which administratively belongs to the Community of Antimahia of the Municipality of Heraklidon The total area of the field, on which the Sanitary Landfill has been constructed, amounts to approximately 215,000m². The Sanitary Landfill is divided into two Phases, Phase A = 42.0 acres and Phase B = 71 acres. The useful volume of the Sanitary Landfill’s Phase A is 321.289 m³. The works carried out at Phase A of the Sanitary Landfill of Kos Island concern:

• Construction works for the Phase B’s basin
• Sealing works
• Leachate treatment works (collection, management)
• Biogas treatment works
• Rainfall management works
• Environmental monitoring works
• Road construction works
• Greenery and irrigation works
• Other infrastructural works

EXPANSION WORKS OF THE SANITARY LANDFILL OF KOS ISLAND

CONSTRUCTION OF CELL 4 OF THE SANITARY LANDFILL OF LARISA

The Sanitary Landfill of Larisa has been constructed in the area “Dauslar”, position “Vrondero” of the Municipal Department of Parapotamos of the Municipality of Makrychori of Larissa Prefecture, 3 km approximately NW of the settlement Mavrolithos or Microlitos of the Municipal District of Vriotopος. The volume of Cell 4 amounts to 696,904 m³. The following works were carried out in the project:

• Works of space planning of Cell 4
• Sealing Works of Cell 4
• Formation of the waste relief of Cell 4
• Leachate and rainwater treatment works of Cell 4
• Biogas treatment works of Cell 4
• Road construction works

REHABILITATION OF THE SANITARY LANDFILL OF THE KILKIS MUNICIPALITY

Budget: 2.728.154,39€

The Sanitary Landfill of Kilkis is located about 1.1 km from the city of Kilkis. The configuration of the Rehabilitation of the Sanitary Landfill was made with the following in mind:

• (a) the spatial characteristics of the immediate area of the project;
• (b) the artful, timely and efficient construction of the restoration works;
• (c) the maximum soil and technical stability of the reclaimed relief and the control of corrosion phenomena;
• (d) the optimum environmental protection of the site for the uncontrolled landfill of waste (reduction of incoming rainforests within refuse, possibility of plant – based interventions, etc.)
• (e) the creation of an aesthetically acceptable new relief to help adapt the ravine to the proposed uses

The works carried out were aimed at laying the waste in such a way as to then ensure the safe handling of the recovery layers on the landscaped waste relief. The waste was located along an area of about 32 acres with the height of the waste reaching up to 17m. In summary, the works carried out are the following:
